COVID-19: EU releases €50 million to Nigeria
As part of its efforts to assist African countries in the fight against coronavirus, the European Union has released €50 million to the Nigerian government to fight the coronavirus disease.
The country’s President, Muhammadu Buhari disclosed the receipt of the grants on Tuesday April 14, 2020.
He made the disclosure while receiving the EU Delegation at the Council Chambers, State House, Abuja.
Head of the EU delegation, Amb Ketil Karlsen, who announced the donation, also commended Buhari for extending Lagos, Ogun, and Abuja lockdown.
While commenting on the steps taken to curtail Covid-19, Karlsen stated that Buhari’s address to the nation on Monday was powerful. He also commended the proactive and bold measures he took to address the pandemic.
Also, the Personal Assistant on New Media to the President, Bashir Ahmad, said, “The European Union has donated a grant of €50 million to the Federal Government. Their contribution is aimed at helping Nigeria fight against COVID19.”
Considering the effectiveness of the initial lockdown, on Monday April 13, 2020, the president announced a 14-day extension of the lockdown in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun States.
