Covid-19: New York deaths double 9/11 death tolls
More than 700 deaths from coronavirus have been reported for the second time in New York.
This was announced yesterday by the by the state governor, Andrew Cuomo, during a press briefing in Albany.
“New York State recorded 779 new coronavirus deaths on Tuesday. It is the biggest one-day jump yet, for a statewide toll of nearly 6,268 – that’s about twice as many people who died in the 9/11 attacks,” he said.
He, however said that the average number of new cases being hospitalized is reducing by the day, as well as the number of people requiring the breathing tubes indicating that measures taken to keep social distancing are succeeding.
“You see that plateauing – that’s because of what we are doing. If we don’t do what we are doing, that is a much different curve. So social distancing is working.”
New York’s death toll has reached about 11,000 with close to 370,000 confirmed cases.
