Libyan rebel leader dies of Covid-19
The former head of rebel government, Mahmud Jibril, who overthrew former Libyan head of state, Muammar Ghaddafi in 2011, has died of coronavirus.
The 68 year old died at Ganzouri Specialist Hospital in Cairo after spending 2 weeks admission.
Hisham Wagdyn, the director of the Egyptian hospital said, “Jibril was admitted to the hospital after suffering a heart attack, but three days later, he tested positive for coronavirus.
“He started recovering the day before yesterday but then he began deteriorating again,” he added.
Jibril was an economic advisor to the Ghaddafi’s government in its final years before joining the revolution in 2011.
He headed the rebel National Transitional Council (NTC), the interim government during the NATO-backed rebellion that toppled and killed Ghaddafi.
