International women day: Facebook celebrates female achievers
Facebook has honored African women, who has been using their voices to bring people together, build and make significant impact in their communities.
This was done as part of the ongoing celebration of International Women’s Day themed: “EachforEqual”.
Regional Director for Facebook Inc, Nuhu Nshingila said, “Everyday, all around the globe and specifically here in Africa, we see women on our platform supporting one another through events, fundraisers, connecting through groups, growing communities and building livelihoods through their small businesses.”
“The narrative of the African woman is one of strength, determination and creativity. We are proud to continue to support and celebrate all women who continue to achieve so much by utilizing the power of their voices through Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp,” he added.
Some of the women who were recognized are a Nigerian woman, Peculiar Ediomo-Abasi, a tech woman who developed a blockchain solution to address violence against women; a Kenyan woman, Getrrude Nyenyeshi, a gaming enthusiast, web and mobile engineer who builds digital skills with her local developer community; another Nigerian woman, Edidiong Asikpo, a software engineer and leader of Facebook’s Developer Circle in Uyo as well as being a part of SheCodeAfrica.
Others include, Thitu Kariba(Kenya), Nadine Maselesele (SouthAfrica), Korie Betty Maru (Kenya), Gbwmisola Boyede (Nigeria), Lusanda Magwape (South Africa), Caamo Kane(Senegal), Swaadi Martins(Pan-Africa), Tosin Oshinowo (Nigeria), Rabia Ghoor (South Africa), Cecilia Muyide(Nigeria), Vuuqa (Kenya), Kemi Lewis (Nigeria) and Muthuri Ian (Kenya).
Platforms like Facebook continue to be an important tool for women business leaders worldwide. They establish businesses, create jobs and livelihoods, reach customers they could never have reached before and create change.
