UNAIDS launches Women’s day report
The joint United Nation Programs on HIV/AIDS has invited news media to the global launch of its program scheduled to hold on March 15th 2020.
The programme which was tagged “We’ve got the power: Women, Adolescent Girls and the HIV response was in celebration of the International Women’s Day.
Winnie Byanyima, the UNAIDS Executive Director, disclosed that the programme will hold in Johannesburg.
“Nardos Bekele Thomas, United Nation’s Resident Coordinator for South African and some other government and community representatives will be speaking at the event,” he noted.
“HIV prevention and treatment programs around the world have reversed the global trend in new HIV infections. These achievements were driven by determination, energy and vision of community activists and organizations around the world,” he added.
Nevertheless, too many women and girls are left behind in the HIV response hence the staging of the program aimed towards achieving the Beijing promise for women’s empowerment and for gender equality.
