Malaysian PM announces resignation
Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has announced his resignation.
Mahathir disclosed this on Monday 24, February 2020. He noted that he had informed the country’s king.
Therefore, Mahathir’s resignation will pave the way for a possible formation of a new government.
Also, the Prime Minister has resigned from his own party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
Mahathir’s decision follows a report that his party was planning to form a new government that would exclude his favorite successor, Anwar Ibrahim.
Earlier this morning, Mahathir and Anwar held a meeting at the prime minister’s residence before the latter held talks with the king.
“Anwar Ibrahim will be the next prime Minister. I have no plans to join with anyone from the previous ruling Coalition to form a new government,” Mahathir’s said.
