Osun State Muslim Community, popularly called OSMC, has faulted the composition and establishment of the regional security outfit jointly created by the state governors in the south western part of the Nigeria, set up allegedly to complement the efforts of the state and federal governments.

In the communiqué issued today at the delegates’ meeting of the Muslim body, it was disclosed that the composition and establishment of the security outfit, popularly known as Àmọ̀tẹ́kùn, were unacceptable to Osun State Muslims because it fails to pass through proper constitutional channels.

“Osun State is in full support of existing security outfit for protection of lives and properties in Nigeria provided by the Nigeria constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the communiqué reads.

While condemning the requirements for the enrolment into the security operation, the body accused the initiators of this controversial security operation of setting up a one-sided security outfit, stressing that it only favours the Christians in the region.

“We unequivocally condemn issuance of certificate of birth, letters of recommendation from the church deliberately silent about other religions. Osun State Muslim Community can never support one-sided security which may later on prove insecure for the general populace,” it adds.

According to the President of the body, Alhaji Mustafa Olawuyi, the Àmọ̀tẹ́kùn security outfit should be made to pass through proper legal channels of endorsement, and he charged the leadership of the security operation to present their terms of operations to the public.

“The public, especially residents of the region, shouldn’t be put in darkness with regards to the new unconstitutional regional security operation, which is currently shrouded in secrecy. We strongly believe the primary motive of its establishment goes beyond just the security service for the region,” he said.

“Osun State Muslim Community … awaits full details of the composition of the security outfit which should be fully endorsed by all State Houses of Assembly in the South West of Nigeria,” he further stated.

“The AMOTEKUN charter titled “Amotekun Golden Rule” contravenes the spirit of Nigerian constitution, confrontational and sectional. The OSMC shall not be disposed to support any organization on tribal sentiments,” he added.
