Queens County Young Democrats Host “A Better Deal Town Hall” With Congressman Joe Crowley
Long Island City, NY – Queens County Young Democrats (QCYD) hosted “A Better Deal” Labor Town Hall with Congressman Joe Crowley, U.S. Representative for New York District 14, Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus and Chair of the Queens County Democratic Party, with labor leaders and Young Democrats on Wednesday night at the IBEW Training Center. Rep. Crowley highlighted the economic agenda of his “A Better Deal” plan. The Congressman also addressed the concerns of working class Americans in the era of President Donald Trump and ensured working people will have voices in the Democratic Party.
“We’re at a critical moment for our country. It’s more important than ever that Americans speak out and take action to fight back against the disastrous agenda of President Trump and congressional Republicans. It’s clear that Queens is energized, and I was so honored to discuss my vision of government can work for seniors, families, students, and all Americans,” said Congressman Joe Crowley. “Thank you to Queens County Young Democrats for making this wonderful event possible. It was an honor to speak with Catherine, Vincent, and Davon, and the young Democrats in the room about how we’re fighting for families and working men and women in Queens.”
The Congressman’s presentation was then followed with a panel discussion further elaborating on labor issues. Panelists included Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan; Vincent Alvarez – President, New York City Central Labor Council (NYCCLC); and Davon Lomax – Political Director, District Council 9 (DC 9). The panelists discussed a variety of topics including the current state of the labor movement and the “A Better Deal’s” inevitable effects on the working class.
“Thank you to the Queens County Young Democrats (QCYD), President Stacey Eliuk and Local 3 IBEW, panel chair Chris Erickson Jr. for inviting me to participate on this very informative panel about labor and education. As the daughter of union shop steward and a former chair of the Assembly Labor Committee, I know the Democratic Party stands with working people. I look forward to supporting Congressman Joseph Crowley and his proposals for A Better Deal. My thanks also to Vincent Alvarez, President of New York City Central Labor Council (NYCCLC) and Davon Lomax of District Council 9 (DC 9) for joining the panel,” said Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan.
“The QCYD Labor Caucus event was a great success in that it was able to bring together a broad group of people united within the Democratic Party and have a conversation that focuses on the issues facing all working people. In these times, we are all under attack and ‘A Better Deal’ is a great start to address these attacks and challenges. It is time for all working people to stand up and make their voices heard, and our conversation helped start the momentum towards that here in Queens and New York City,” said Christopher Erikson Jr., Co-Chair of QCYD Labor Caucus.
