Pakistan marks 52nd anniversary of Defense Day
Islamabad: Pakistan celebrated 52nd anniversary to memorize the heroes of 1965 with traditional avidity and sovereignty across the country on September 6, 2017, according to some of the official sources.
The day started with special prayer in the entire mosques across the country for the progress and prosperity. It was followed by attributions of 21 cannons and the recitation of Holy Quran in the melodious voice of Qari Basit.
Official news channel PTV (Pakistan Television) broadcasted live ceremony at GHQ headquarters in Islamabad in which all the three forces of Pakistan (army, air force and navy) had shown their various arts, including changing of guards on the tomb of Allama Muhammad Iqbal in Lahore and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi.
Former army chief retired Gen Raheel Sharif laid floral wreath on the grave of the heroes of 1965 (who lost their lives but didn’t allow enemy to capture their land) Major Shabbir Sharif (brother) and Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed(uncle) in Miani Sahib graveyard. He said, “History will never forget their services while serving their motherland and how they embraced Shahadat.”
President Mamnoon Hussain in his messages paid homage to those who laid down their lives in Pakistan’s defence.
Furthermore, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahid Khakan Abbasi said in his message, “We will never forget the services of air chief Marshal Ayub Khan, Wing Commondor M.M Alam , Wing Commodore Sisal Chaudhary and Younis khan who laid example for future generation in Pakistan Air force.
“While Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, Laurence Naik Lalak Jan, Major Shabbir Shareef and Major Tufail lost their lives but still remains alive in our memories.
However, a number of events have been organized in order to celebrate the Defense Day in GHQ Islamabad.
