Islam says “NO” to terrorism
Many have failed to understand that Islam is never related to the act of terror. Islam is a religion of peace and preaches against the act of violence. However, the Q’uran didn’t preach violence against the Christians or other religions as such, many verses in the Holy book have been literally misinterpreted by most readers who as a result believe that Islam is incomplete without war:
“Permission to fight is given to those against whom war is made, because they have been wronged..” (Q’uran 22:40)
This verse was revealed in Medina which implies that unnecessary fight is completely unislamic.
Also, the Quran clearly stated that killing is prohibited in Islam. It further explains how important it is to love one another:
“You will enter paradise until you have faith and you will not have faith until you love one another…none of you truly believe until you love for your brother what you love for yourself,” prophet Muhammad (salallaahu alayhi wassalam) said.
On a contrary, the Quran has been interpreted to depict terrorism. Some verses in the Holy book encompasses war but many failed to understand the context in which these verses were revealed from God. Research revealed that these verses were revealed at the time when Muslims were attacked by the non-Muslims of makkah on a regular basis. In this context, Muslims were given permission to fight back.
However, religious books are meant to be read and studied according the context in which they were revealed. As a matter of fact, Islam creates no room for violence. As such, some verses in the Bible also depict war:
“I tell you that to everyone who has, more shall be given, but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. But these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them in my presence.” (Luke 19:26-27)
The above quote from the Bible talked about violence in a particular historical context. However, such similar quotes are also found in the Q’uran.
Islam is a religion of peace. The Q’uran needs to be read and understood under the context it is being revealed. However, the Quran says no to terrorism and never permits any terrorist act as it is forbidden and sinful to take innocent lives:
“Whosoever kills an innocent human being, it shall be as if he has killed all mankind, and whoever saves the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind”
(Q’uran 5:32)
