Pakistan’s Prime Minister meets senior military officials to respond to US policy against Afghanistan
ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shahid khaqan Abbasi met COAS and senior military officials on Thursday 24th August, 2017 to formulate the response of President of United States Donald Trump who badly criticized Pakistan during his speech by calling them “agent of chaos.”
Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif, Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee Zubair Hayat, Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Air Chief ACM Sohail Aman, and Naval Chief Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah are among those in attendance.
In his speech President of United States Donald Trump said, “We have been paying Pakistan billions and billions of dollars at the same time they are housing the very terrorists that we are fighting.”
Earlier that week COAS (Chief of Army Staff) General Qamar Jawed Bajwa warned Washington in serious tone, “We are not looking for any material or financial assistance from the US, but trust, understanding and an acknowledgement of our contributions.”
He further added, “Pakistan can afford to walk away from United States.
“Pakistan is the senior player in “war against terrorism”, the pressure on Pakistan would create instability in the region,” Russia warns United States.
Vladimir Putin in his interview said, “Pakistan always shows a positive attitude for regional security and peace.”
China State Councillor Yang Jiechi told Tillerson, “We should attach importance to the important role that Pakistan plays in the Afghanistan issue, respect (Pakistan’s) sovereignty and legitimate security concerns.”
“We are happy to see Pakistan and the United States carry out anti-terror cooperation on the basis of mutual respect, and work together for security and stability in the region and world.
“We hope the relevant US policies can help promote the security, stability and development of Afghanistan and the region,” Chinese Foreign Minister said.
PM Abbasi has yet to respond to the shift in US stance.
