As South Africa celebrates Mandela Day, ANC MP takes a chance to denounce President Zuma
Nelson Mandela International Day (Mandela Day), is an annual international day celebration on every 18 July. The day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009, in honor of the late Nelson Madiba Mandela.
“Nelson Mandela fought for social justice for 67 years. We’re asking you to start with 67 minutes.” – is the campaign message for the Mandela Day.
The Mandela Day is also a global call to action celebrating the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world and the ability to make an impact.
Tuesday 18 July 2017, as the South Africans celebrated the great man’s day (Mandela Day), an ANC MP branded South African current president, Jacob Zuma, a disgrace.
Makhosi Khoza, a strident 47 year old Zulu academic, in a breach of party discipline, denounced President Zuma as an insult to the memory of democratic South Africa’s founding father.
“I am here to defend the ANC mission, and not a dishonorable and disgraceful leader,” Khoza informed Reuters in a conference of civil society groups, union and business leaders pushing for Zuma’s removal in a no confidence vote come next month.
Following the many ANC angry cadres who have watched Africa’s oldest liberation movement decline under Zuma’s leadership, Khoza, who is said to be an ANC supporter since her tender age of 12, informed that she could follow the orders of a flawed leadership no more.
“The dilemma I had is this: what is such directives are morally bankrupt? What if such directives are directionless? What if such directives reflect arrogance, dishonesty and denialism?” – said Makhosi Khoza.
President Jacob Zuma’s time in power, has been reportedly marked by economic stagnation and scandal.
On August 8 2017, the opposition will for the ninth month try to vote Zuma, on the no-confidence motion. Which if goes successful, President Zuma will most likely step down.
The South African Communist Party too, whose 17 MPs back the ANC in the parliament, were reported saying that Zuma should step resign, the statement was given in April.
Makhosi Khoza is also an expert in Zulu linguistics and also holds a PhD in public administration.
