Uganda high court has dismissed with costs a case filed by homosexuals against Uganda’s minister of ethics and integrity, Father Simon Lokodo.

They accused Father Lokodo of storming into their workshop in a hotel two years ago and closed it. They wanted court to make Lokodo pay for the  losses they incurred since the meeting was supposed to last for two weeks but it was stopped after one day yet they had paid to the hotel management the whole bill.

After closing the workshop, the homosexuals led by Kasha Nabagesera sued the minister for infringing on their constitutional rights when he closed their ongoing workshop.

Justice Steven Musota in his ruling said that the minister acted in public interest so he has no case to answer.

“The minister was protecting the morals values of the society,” he said.

He said that in the minister’s defense he had said that the homosexuals were distributing homosexual literature in the workshop, intended to train and recruit others into the vice, which is illegal in Uganda.

Musota further said, “While the homosexuals were meant to enjoy their rights, they had an obligation in exercising them according to the law, which they didn’t.”

The homosexuals have vowed to appeal against the court ruling. However, Father Lokodo said he was satisfied with the ruling.

“I am happy because of the court ruling. I want to thank the judiciary for having looked into the values that are more positive to the public,” said Lokodo.

Most Ugandans are satisfied with the court ruling. Amos Kato, a school teacher said, “Ugandans hate anything to do with homosexuality and we support the court ruling because we do not want the vice to spread in our children.”
