Chinua Achebe missed by many

The death of one of the greatest writers in Africa, Chinua Achebe has left many people sad.
‘He has been one of the most revered writer, not only here in Nigeria but also allover the world’ said Simon Sakwa a teacher of Literature in English in Nigeria.’Many African students, especially those who study literature in English have studied his books’ He added.
Chinua Achebe, the Nigeria legendary writer died on Monday at the age of 82 yrs.He was one of the African writers who featured in he
popular African Writers’ series of the 1960’s and 1970’s where they showed the world that Africa could indeed also produce high caliber novelists.
His most popular book is entitled,’Things fall aprt’ which was translated in over 20 languages world over. He is also author of other
great novels like ‘No longer at ease’ and ‘Arrow of God.’
Achebe also received the Peace prize of the German Book Trade. It is not therefore surprising that German foreign minister Westerwelle issued a statement on the death of Chinua Achebe:
The minister’s statement read. ‘With Chinua Achebe’s death we have lost one of the truly major voicesin world literature. Achebe’s renowned novels such as ‘Things Fall Apart’ offered readers around the world a powerful up close view of historical upheaval in Africa. We join the writer’s family and all of Nigeria in mourning the loss of this great and important literary figure.’
