22 killed in overnight Israeli airstrike in Northern Gaza
An overnight Israeli airstrike in northern Gaza killed at least 22 people, including women and children, according to Gaza’s civil defence agency.
Agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal stated that the attack targeted a three-story house belonging to the Abu al-Tarabish family near Kamal Adwan hospital.
The house, which housed over 50 people, was destroyed by three missiles fired by an Israeli jet. Rescuers struggled to retrieve victims and survivors from the rubble until morning. Witnesses reported multiple bombings across northern Gaza overnight.
In central Gaza, an Israeli strike on the Al-Bayoumi family’s house in the Nuseirat refugee camp killed at least seven people on Wednesday morning, according to Bassal.
The Israeli military did not respond to inquiries about the strikes but stated that two projectiles launched from central Gaza into Israel were intercepted.
The conflict in Gaza escalated after Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7 last year, killing 1,208 people, and abducting 251 hostages. Israel claims 96 hostages remain in Gaza, 34 of whom are presumed dead.
In response, Israel’s ongoing offensive in Gaza has reportedly resulted in 44,786 fatalities, the majority being civilians, according to data from Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry, which the UN considers reliable.
