Oman marks International Anti-Corruption Day with global community
The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the State Audit Institution (SAI), participated in the International Anti-Corruption Day celebrations, reaffirming its commitment to combating corruption.
Observed annually on December 9, the day commemorates the adoption of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) by the UN General Assembly in 2003.
This year’s theme, “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity,” focuses on the vital role of young people in raising awareness about corruption and driving innovative solutions.
Shabeeb Nasser Al Busaidi, Director General of Legal Works and Head of the Integrity Promoting and Anti-Corruption Committee at SAI, emphasized that fostering integrity aligns with Oman’s cultural values and requires active engagement with youth.
Since joining UNCAC in 2013, Oman has worked tirelessly to establish systems promoting societal integrity. The SAI has played a pivotal role in updating legislation, drafting the National Integrity Promotion Plan, and coordinating its implementation alongside Oman Vision 2040’s objectives.
Regionally, Oman has reinforced its anti-corruption stance by endorsing the Arab Anti-Corruption Convention in 2014 and engaging with international bodies like the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities (GlobE).
