“Its unacceptable”: Ireland flays Israel over bloody campaigns in Gaza
Ireland has strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing military action in the Gaza Strip, calling it “unacceptable”.
Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defense Micheal Martin expressed his concerns over the escalating violence, highlighting the dozens of deaths in recent days as a stark reminder of the devastating impact on Gaza’s civilians.
He particularly emphasized the severity of attacks on hospitals and medical facilities, which have dire consequences for the most vulnerable populations.
Martin also denounced Israel’s aggression in the West Bank, specifically citing the destruction caused to the UNRWA office in the Nur Shams Camp by Israeli bulldozers.
He underscored the crucial role of UNRWA and other UN agencies in supporting extremely vulnerable individuals, stressing that they must be allowed to continue their work unimpeded.
Martin said: “I am appalled at the severe damage caused to the UNRWA office in the Nur Shams Camp by the ]Israeli occupation forces[ bulldozers.”
He stressed that “UNRWA and other UN actors provide essential support to extremely vulnerable people and must be allowed to carry out this work.”
He also pointed out the need for Israel to “fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law” while reiterating the call for an immediate ceasefire.
The stance aligns with growing international concern over the escalating violence in the region. UN experts have also sounded the alarm over the alarming rhetoric from senior Israeli officials, advocating for the “total destruction” and “erasure” of Gaza, which is perceived as genocidal.
