The US has issued a stern warning to Iran, urging the country not to retaliate against the latest Israeli strikes carried out on Saturday.

A senior administration official stated that if Iran chooses to respond again, the US will be ready, and there will be consequences for Iran.

“If Iran chooses to respond once again, we will be ready, and there will be consequences for Iran once again,” a statement by senior administration officials said.

It added that the US did not want to see this happen.

“This should be the end of this direct exchange of fire between Israel and Iran,” the statement went on, adding that Washington was prepared to “lead an effort to secure an end to the war in Lebanon” and try to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, together with the return of hostages seized from Israel.

The tensions between Iran and Israel have been escalating, with Iran claiming the recent attacks were an act of “self-defense” in retaliation for Israel’s assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

The US has pledged to work with Israel to ensure Iran faces repercussions for its actions, promising “severe consequences.”

The international community is closely watching the situation, with the UN and several world leaders warning that the conflict risks escalating into a full-blown regional war.
