Israel under fire as US kicks against “bombing campaign” in Beirut

The United States has expressed strong concerns over Israel’s recent air strikes in Beirut, citing the rising death toll and potential for wider escalation involving Iran.

This opposition comes despite the U.S. being Israel’s closest ally

Matthew Miller, State Department spokesperson, stated that the U.S. opposes the scope of the bombing campaign in Beirut over the past few weeks. This is a significant shift in tone from the U.S., which has traditionally supported Israel.

“When it comes to the scope and nature of the bombing campaign that we saw in Beirut over the past few weeks, it’s something that we made clear to the government of Israel we had concerns with and we were opposed to,” he told reporters.

The situation is dire, with Israeli military evacuation orders affecting over a quarter of Lebanon, according to the U.N. refugee agency. This comes two weeks after Israel began incursions into southern Lebanon, aiming to push back Hezbollah.

Western countries are pushing for a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, as well as in Gaza. However, the U.S. maintains its support for Israel, sending an anti-missile system and troops.

Muslim Parrot earlier reported that Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin wrote to Israeli officials, demanding concrete measures to address the worsening situation in Gaza. Israel has been given 30 days to take specific actions.

The conflict has resulted in significant human suffering, with at least 2,350 people killed and nearly 11,000 wounded in the past year. Over 1.2 million people have been displaced, with hundreds of women and children among the casualties.
