Gaza food crisis worsens as Israeli rampaging operation continues

The Israeli military’s intensified operation in northern Gaza has taken a devastating toll on food security for thousands of Palestinian families, according to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

With main crossings into the north closed by Israel since October 1, no food aid has been able to enter the area, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.

The blockade has resulted in widespread shortages of essential supplies, including food, water, and fuel, leaving many families struggling to survive.

” We are committed to delivering life-saving food every day despite the mounting challenges,” said Antoine Renard, WFP Country Director for Palestine.

“But without safe and sustained access, it is virtually impossible to reach the people in need,” the WFP official added.

The situation on the ground is dire, with reports indicating that nearly 85% of Gaza’s population, approximately 1.9 million people, are internally displaced and in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.

The WFP has warned of a serious risk of starvation and famine in Gaza, with households in northern Gaza and southern Gaza experiencing severe levels of hunger.

The lack of access to basic necessities has led to the shutdown of bakeries, hospitals, sewage pumping stations, water desalination plants, and wells, further exacerbating the crisis.

Human Rights Watch has condemned Israel’s actions, stating that the use of starvation as a method of warfare is a war crime. The organization has called on Israel to lift its blockade, restore electricity and water access, and allow desperately needed food, medical aid, and fuel into Gaza.
