Displacement swells amid Israeli aggression in Lebanon, hundreds killed, others injured

No fewer than two million Lebanese have been displaced due to the ongoing Israeli aggression over the past week, resulting in hundreds of deaths and injuries, according to a Lebanese government official.

Nasser Yassin, Lebanon’s caretaker Minister of Environment, who is overseeing the crisis response, revealed in a press briefing that about one million Lebanese have been forced to flee their homes since Israeli attacks began on September 23, with hundreds of thousands displaced in just the last two days.

On Saturday, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi confirmed that more than 200,000 people have been displaced within Lebanon. He added in a post on X that over 50,000 Lebanese and Syrians residing in Lebanon have crossed into Syria to escape the escalating Israeli airstrikes.

Israel has intensified airstrikes across various Lebanese regions, particularly in the capital Beirut and southern towns and villages, with the attacks claiming and injuring nearly 3,000 people.

The death toll from Saturday’s strikes alone reached 33, with 195 others injured.

Lebanon’s caretaker Minister of Public Health, Firas Abiad, stated that since the beginning of Israeli aggression on October 8, 1,640 people have been killed and 8,408 injured.
