India: Outrage in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit District after brutal assault on Muslim youth

A horrific incident in Pilibhit district, Uttar Pradesh, northern India, has sparked widespread outrage, particularly among the Muslim community, after a group of over a dozen individuals, including the local Bajrang Dal president, reportedly attacked a Muslim youth named Changez Khan.
The September 1st assault, captured on video, shows the attackers mercilessly beating Khan with sticks, targeting his private parts, and later allegedly attacking him with a knife in a vehicle.
Despite bystander pleas and the shopkeeper’s intervention, the attackers continued their brutality.
The incident has raised concerns about police inaction, as a counter-complaint was filed against Khan on September 3rd, accusing him of molestation.
This has further fuelled community anger, leading to protests demanding justice for Khan. Community members are urging the administration to take swift and strict action against the attackers, emphasising that the incident represents an attack on the entire community. The authorities’ lack of response has deepened feelings of frustration and injustice.
