French prosecutors have initiated a homicide investigation following the grim discovery of five bodies in the town of Meaux, located northeast of Paris. Local media reports reveal that the victims consist of a woman and her four young children, whose lifeless bodies were found in an apartment approximately 41km (25 miles) from the French capital.

The 33-year-old father is now the subject of a manhunt, as police intensify efforts to locate him. Jean-Baptiste Bladier, the prosecutor overseeing the case, confirmed that the Versailles judicial police service is actively conducting the investigation, as the community grapples with this devastating incident.

This disturbing incident adds to a recent series of tragedies in the Paris region, notably marked by instances of infanticides. In late November, a 41-year-old man confessed to the killing of his three daughters, aged four to 11, in the town of Alfortville. Similarly, in October, a policeman tragically took the lives of his three daughters before turning the weapon on himself in Vemars, Val-d’Oise. The string of such distressing events raises concerns and prompts a deeper examination of the societal factors contributing to these tragedies.
