Iraq, Azerbaijan strengthen ties with signing of key agreements
Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid convened with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the Zagulba Presidential Palace in Baku on Monday.
The high-level meeting delved into the global political, security, and economic landscape, with a particular focus on the shared perspectives of Iraq and Azerbaijan regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip, as outlined in an official statement from the Iraqi Presidency.
Expressing gratitude for Azerbaijan’s commitment to fostering bilateral relations, President Rashid affirmed Iraq’s eagerness to bolster ties for mutual benefit. The fruitful discussions culminated in the signing of crucial memoranda of understanding and agreements spanning various sectors, including politics, economics, trade, and tourism.
Notable accords include a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the ministries of labor, signed by Azerbaijani Minister Sahil Babayev and Iraqi Minister Ahmed Al-Asadi. Additionally, a pact on tourism collaboration was inked between Fuad Naghiyev, Chairman of the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan, and Zafer Mahdi, Chairman of the Tourism Authority of Iraq.
The diplomatic front saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations between Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mohammed Bahr Al-Uloom, Iraqi Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. Furthermore, an air services agreement was solidified between Rashad Nabiyev, Azerbaijani Minister of Digital Development and Transport, and Imad Al-Asadi, President of the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority.
These agreements mark a pivotal step in the deepening collaboration between Iraq and Azerbaijan, fostering cooperation across diverse sectors and underlining their commitment to shared goals and interests.
