Iraq, Jordan successfully connect electrical grids
In a significant development for the energy landscape in the Middle East, Iraq has completed its electrical interconnection with Jordan. The Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, made the official announcement on Saturday, marking the successful culmination of this critical infrastructure project.
According to reports from the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Iraq is poised to begin receiving electric power from Jordan in the coming days. Minister Fadel outlined the Electricity Ministry’s plans for the upcoming summer, emphasizing the importance of stable and reliable power supply.
Minister Fadel further revealed that all electrical interconnection contracts with neighboring countries are on track and progressing as planned. This includes not only the connection with Jordan but also initiatives involving Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states.
Experts in the region view the completion of the electrical interconnection project with Jordan as a significant step toward addressing Iraq’s persistent electricity challenges. The project, whose foundation stone was laid in October 2022, is expected to inject thousands of megawatts of electricity into Iraq’s national grid. This boost in power capacity is seen as a crucial means to improve electricity provision across the country.
The positive ramifications of resolving the electricity crisis in Iraq are far-reaching. It is anticipated that this achievement will have a direct and positive impact on various sectors, including productivity, services, and overall development. Moreover, it is expected to contribute to enhanced political and social stability in the region and attract much-needed investments.
This milestone in Iraq’s energy infrastructure not only strengthens regional cooperation but also offers a ray of hope for a brighter future with improved electricity availability and its associated benefits.
