Teen shot outside school on Staten Island
A teen was shot dead outside a school on Staten Island. Masked gunmen opened fire outside the school. The police are searching for five men who opened the fire outside Tottenville High School.
The teen was reportedly shot outside the public high school on Staten Island on Tuesday afternoon. Officials said this prompted the school to go into lockdown for a short period.
According to the NYPD, the shooting happened in front of Tottenville High School on Luten Avenue in the Prince’s Bay section of the borough just before 2 p.m.
After several men with covered faces approached the front of the school, the gunfire erupted, sending people running for cover.
Police said the five masked men fired between five and seven shots.
The teen who was shot is expected to survive.
New York City police said the student was hit in the ankle and taken to Staten Island University Hospital North for treatment. He may not have been the intended target, police said.
The shooters fled and are still at large.
Authorities haven’t released the victim’s age and condition. However, it was reported that he is 14 years old and in stable condition.
