The state education department has proposed new regulations for non-public schools.

New York is set to update rules regulating education standards in nonpublic schools.

Over time, there’s been an on-going debate over the standard of secular education in private schools. This includes Jewish schools known as “Yeshivas.”

Also, the department is currently seeking public comments on the plan through the end of the month.

Although, in the past, efforts to reform private school standards have gotten pushback, supporters say students at those schools are not learning enough in math, English and other secular subjects.

On Friday, Naftuli Moster, the executive director of Young Advocates for Fair Education (YAFFED) joined political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” to discuss rules regulating education standards in nonpublic schools.
