It was the first Monday in May, the traditional date of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Ball, hosted each year by Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

One of this year’s hosts, Blake Lively, had a New York-themed outfit which she described in detail.

“This is the constellation Grand Central Station,” Lively said. “This is the Empire State Building, the draping Statue of Liberty plus the crown.”

The glamorous gowns shut down the streets around the museum.

Among the attendees: Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson and other Kardashians too numerous to mention. Gabrielle Union and Duane Wade were there along with Jimmy Fallon, Kerry Washington, recent Oscar winner Jessica Chastain, Julianne Moore and Hugh Jackman.

Mayor Eric Adams was also in a New York-themed outfit by local designer Láolú.

“Láolú has an amazing story,” Adams said. “He came here and as we march up tonight, you know, Tracy’s in a great Oscar de la Renta, but I wanted to go local also. And he’s an amazing designer that captured what I wanted. I wanted to make sure we talk about disappointing, ending gun violence and the basis or the number of children who were impacted by gun violence in our city and country.”

Actor Glenn Close was also back in town, especially for Monday’s event.

“My entire career has been in New York. It’s a city I love dearly. But now I live out in the west in Montana. And to come here from Montana – I realized what a magnificent city it is.”

Ralph Lauren’s son David showed up wearing, what else? Ralph Lauren. He was glad the Met Gala theme was a tribute to American fashion.

“I think it’s long overdue, and I think it’s really well received. So it’s great.” Ralph Lauren’s contribution to the red carpet included Alicia Keys.

“We brought out some pretty cool people. You probably see Alicia Keys right over there looking very New York, and partner in a cool New York Yankees and Ralph Lauren collab. So it’s very in honor of New York and in honor of this great, great event.”

The night’s celebrity hoopla is for a good cause raising over $10 million for The Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute.
