DHUL-HIJJAH: Nigerian Islamic Council announces sighting of Crescent
The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, under the leadership of its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alh. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, has announced the sighting of the cresent.
While disclosing this in a statement signed by the Deputy Secretary-General of NSCIA, Prof. Salisu Shehu, on Tuesday July 21, 2020, Sa’ad Abubakar stated that the sighting of the crescent marks the end of Dhul-Qa’dah, 1441 AH.
“We Wish to inform the Nigerian Muslim Ummah that there was proven sighting of the crescent of Dhul-Hijjah, 1441 AH in Nigeria on the 29th of Dhul-Qa’dah, 1441 AH, equivalent to Tuesday, 21st July, 2020,” the statement reads.
“Therefore, Tuesday, 21st July, 2020 is the last day of Dhul-Qa’dah, 1441 AH,” the statement adds.
The President-General of NSCIA therefore approved Wednesday July 22nd 1441 AH as the 1st day
of Dhul-Hijjah, 1441 AH.
The Council enjoined the Nigerian Muslim Ummah to continue to
promote peaceful coexistence and unity among all the citizens of the country.
It also calls on the Ummah to rededicate themselves to worship
Almighty Allah with full devotion and to intensify prayer to Allah for the eradication of Corona Virus and all other challenges facing the country such as insurgency, banditry and rape.
While wishing the Ummah happy Eid-il-adha in advance, the Council prays that Allah spare our lives to witness it and many more.
The Council also prays that Allah accept all our supplications, worship and sacrifices in the month of Dhul Hijjah and beyond. Amin.
