Liverpool emerges Premier League champion, ends 30 years of wait

Liverpool has emerged the Premiere League champion in the just concluded 2019/2020 season.

The victory on Thursday June, 2020, has ended the club’s 30 years of wait for a top-flight title since 1990 following Manchester City’s loss 2-1 at Chelsea on Thursday.

This means Liverpool now has 19 titles to their name being one title behind Manchester United who currently has 20.

The 4-0 defeat Crystal Palace suffered at the hand of Liverpool leaves the Reds with just two points to win the title from their remaining seven games.

Liverpool stands at the top of the game as the second-placed Manchester City with 23 points behind in their remaining seven matches following the Stamford Bridge’s result on Thursday.

The triumph is a tough struggle as the Liverpool tried hard to keep the lead since the second week of the season against Manchester City which tried to pin back the Reds throughout the season.

The Reds however suffered their first defeat in the Premiere League in February in a match against Watford with a 3-0 loss.

Jurgen Klopp, expressing his joy in an interview with Sky Sports said, “I have no words. It’s unbelievable. It’s much more than I ever thought, to become champions with this outstanding club is unbelievable.”

Klopp described the team’s triumph as a great achievement saying it is really beyond what he could ever imagined.

“It’s an incredible achievement for my players,” he said.

“It’s the best thing I could ever imagine and it’s more than I ever dreamed of,” Klopp added.

Speaking further, Klopp said, “I haven’t waited 30 years, I have beenhere for four-and-a-half years, but it is quite an achievement, especially with the three-month break because nobody knew if we could go on.

“I know it is difficult for people in this moment but we could not hold back. We will enjoy this with our supporters when we can.”

John W. Henry, Liverpool principal owner in a tweet described the success of the team as magnificent achievement.

“This was a season for the ages and for the faithful of Liverpool Football Club,” Henry said.

“It has been an incredible year of magnificent achievement culminating tonight in capturing the Premier League title.

“This in addition to winning a European championship, a Super Cup and a world championship — the totality of this accomplishment has brought respite and joy to so many in a year filled with so much tragedy,” he added.

“We are Liverpool. You, the supporters are Liverpool in every sense and you continue to drive the club forward — a historic club making history once again,” Henry concluded.
