Nigeria: Rep member condemns sexual violence against girl-child
A member of the country’s House of Representative, Hon Adeyemi Alli, has expressed concern over the incessant cases of sexual violence and brutality against the girl-child in the country.
Hon Alli, who represents Mushin Constituency 1 in Lagos State, joined other political leaders in the country to condemn the despicable act.
While expressing his indignation over the ravaging cases of rape in the country on Sunday June 7, 2020, Hon Alli stated that he was concerned about the rising incidence of the sexual violence against the girl-child.
He noted that the lawmakers are already deliberating a stiff penalty for perpetrators of the egregious crime.
“The lawmakers are also worried about the incidence of rape in the country.
“Efforts are being made to tackle the rape scourge and protect women, especially the young ladies and girls against sexual molestation,” Hon Alli said.
He further stated that the evil can never continue, stressing that the recent cases would be thoroughly investigated by the office of the Inspector General of Police, and the perpetrators would be brough to book.
He therefore advised parents and guardians to watch over their children and wards.
“It is necessary that parents and guardians watch over their children and wards as rapists seem to be everywhere.
“I can assure you that the government is committed to ensuring maximum protection of all Nigerians against any form of brutality.
“Sexual brutality is not only a crime against a girl-child, but also against humanity.
“The victims experience physical pain, face stigmatization and psychological trauma,” he added.
