Covid-19: UAE, Jordan partner, unify preventive measures in air freight system

Both the General Authority of Civil Aviation and the Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority in Jordan have established a strong partnership aimed at unifying preventive measures to confront the Covid-19 pandemic.

While disclosing this on Wednesday May 20, 2020, Director General of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, his Excellency Saif Muhammad Al-Suwaidi, said that initiative was aimed at creating a safer air freight system between the two countries.

He added that it was an impressive move that could open the door of similar cooperation, motivate many countries to unify their preventive measures with The United Arab Emirates.

He explained that with the current outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic and its impact on airlines and the flow of commercial traffic, transportation of medical equipment, medicines, food, dangerous materials, perishable materials, general and special cargo of various kinds is important.

Commenting on the partnership, Captain Haitham Mesto, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Jordanian Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority, stated that it was agreed to form a technical committee consisting of the Jordanian and Emirati sides of the importance of commercial exchange between the two countries on several levels, including the transportation of goods and passengers and the maintenance of aircraft.

“The committee would harmonize procedures and their integration with regard to civil aviation affairs between the two countries and highlight the importance of interchange, which would overcome obstacles and difficulties, and transmit the necessary confidence to the bodies, workers and beneficiaries of this important vital sector.

“What has been accomplished until now is the stage of transporting goods where the procedures have been harmonized and their effectiveness and efficiency ensured to ensure full compliance with international requirements related to the safety and security of civil aviation in a manner that ensures the smooth commercial air exchange between the two countries,” he said.

He noted that continuous uninterrupted air freight services are vital to the economy and fighting Coronavirus.

“The flow of commercial traffic globally and in the United Arab Emirates also depends on the sustainability of operating air freight services and overcoming any obstacles that may be encountered to support the movement of the economy as much as possible,” he added.
