First case of coronavirus has been confirmed in Yemen.

The case was confirmed on Friday 10th April 2020 in the city of Al-Shehr in Hadramout province in a Yemeni citizen who works in the Al-Shehr port.

While confirming this, Yemen’s supreme national emergency committee for COVID-19, stated on its Twitter handle, “The first confirmed case of coronavirus has been reported in Hadramout province.”

The internationally recognized Yemen Government also announced the first case of Covid-19 in the country, raising possible fear for the outbreak that could prove devastating on the already crippled health system in the country.

The virus could as well prove catastrophic, according to Lise Grande, UN humanitarian coordinator, because the heath system of half of the population is very degraded.

The committee however said that the infected person is receiving care and is in a stable condition.

The committee further said that necessary actions had been taken by medical teams and other authorities concerned and that it would provide updates on the development of the situation.
