Another Muslim Imam has been shot dead in Uganda leaving followers scared and wondering about who is responsible for the killings.
Police has identified the killed Imam as shiekh Abu Jowali Situnga, the Imam of Namayemba Salafi mosque, located 170kms east of Kampala city, in Bugiri district.
On the eve of last Idd-el-Fitr, the Imam of Masjid Mosque in the same district of Bugiri, Sheikh Yunusu Madango was also shot dead.
That is the seventh Imam being killed in a similar manner in the country by unidentified killers. No arrests have ever been made after
the shooting of the Imams which has left many Muslims in the country wondering if police is doing enough to arrest the murderers.
The police officer in charge of criminal investigations in Bugiri district, David Opio said,’ The deceased was shot at as he returned
home from Isha prayers last evening. He died shortly after being admitted in hospital.’
An eye witness, Faridah Namuwaya said,’Two men dressed in jackets shot the Imam thrice from behind. He has been our Imam for several years. Those who killed him were traveling on a motorcycle. They used a pistol to shoot at him.’
Police said it has started hunting for the killers but Muslims in the area have threatened to demonstrate if police does not get those who
kill their Imams.
