COUNCIL MEMBER VAN BRAMER RECEIVES 2018 IMPACT AWARD FROM GIRL SCOUTS OF NEW YORK
YESTERDAY, New York City Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer was honored with the 2018 Impact Award at the Girl Scouts of New York Annual Meeting. Council Member Van Bramer was chosen for this award because of his ongoing commitment to Girl Scouting. For years, he has been a frequent guest at Girl Scout troop meetings, joined girls in doing service projects and attended events throughout the community. He has also generously funded troop building efforts in his district. Last year, he partnered with Girl Scouts to start Troop 6000, a troop exclusively for girls living in New York City’s homeless shelters. The troop started at a homeless shelter is his district, and now the program is delivered to the girls and their moms in the shelters where they live on a weekly basis.
“The Girl Scouts help to make sure that every single girl is empowered and feels valued, worthy and strong,” said Council Member Van Bramer. “The troops in my district are so service-oriented and the work that I did with those girls in our homeless shelters ultimately led to us creating Troop 6000. Partnering with Girls Scouts to make sure that these homeless girls and their moms have access these programs is the right thing to do and something I am enormously proud of. It’s important that we make sure that no girl gets left behind and that everyone has an opportunity to be a part of this amazing community.”
