Activists call on court to finalize murder of Pakistani social media star’s case
Multan: On October 21, 2017, a case of 26 years old social media star Qandeel Balouch became a bit challenging for the court to be resolved, according to ARY News Channel, the case had controversial aspect.
It had been acknowledged that the murder of the famous, bold YouTube star (who burst on to the social media scene in 2013, posting videos, revealing picture and online comments) had challenged the Pakistani conservative values because of so-called honour killing by her brother.
Her brother said, “I killed her because she was bringing a bad name to the family.”
A case took dramatic turn due to the involvement of renowned religious scholar Mufti Abdul Qavi (who was also the member of “moon-sighted” committee) went for trail after her murder. That religious scholar met her before her death and was arrested as suspicious.
Her videos were praised not only in Pakistan but were in top 10 most searched Pakistani personalities.
Mufti met her in one programme and later he used to meet her every second day. Not less than a month after she met the cleric and died.
Her parents told, “Being an influential religious scholar with hundreds of devoted disciples.
“Mufti prompted us to kill Qandeel for dishonoring the family and making them all a source of public ridicule.”
After her death activists stage protests against conservative Pakistani views of women.
However, she died on July last year but still the case is pending. No doubts, the judicial process would take a long time in Pakistan, but the arrest sparked a new wave of interest in her case.
