Pep Guardiola denies Raheem Sterling from joining Arsenal
On sport, Pep Guardiola says there was no chance Manchester City would part with Raheem Sterling as part of a deal to sign Alexis Sanchez. He has thus confirmed there was “zero chance” he was going to allow Raheem Sterling to join Arsenal on deadline day.
In a sport update on Sky Sport website, the Manchester City manager disclosed that Arsenal tried to negotiate a swap deal involving the England international as City attempted to sign Alexis Sanches on Deadline Day, but Guardiola blocked the deal.
Sanchez therefore will remain at Arsenal while Sterling is to feature for City against Liverpool. According to the manager, Arsenal hinted of a swap which he kicked against. He noted that he will not swap him because he has great believe in the 22 year old.
“When we started to speak with Arsenal in the last days, they wanted to make a swap with Raz.
“They talked to me and I said ‘no chance. zero chance. Not one per cent chance we will swap Raz because I trust a lot in him’.
For Pep Guardiola, only a deal with cash is his interest. He confirmed that he is never in haste as there are chances of improvement in the player.
“He is 22 years old, an English player, and there is a lot of room to improve. The only deal we would do was cash.
“In the end Alexis stayed in Arsenal. I don’t know what will happen in the winter. Sometimes deals work, sometimes not.”
