Nothing less than nine people have been confirmed dead, following an attack by the notorious Al-Shabab terrorist group. Bernard Momanyi confirmed this in his report on the incident, stating that “At least nine people were killed in Lamu County on Saturday morning, in an attack blamed on Al Shabab terrorists.”

He wrote in the report, as published on the Capital Fm website that “Police sources said the attack occurred at Jima and Pandaguo villages near the border with Somalia which has been prone to attacks in recent weeks, mainly targeting security forces.”

This statement is further confirmed in a statement from a police officer of the region, who explained that some of the nine victims were shot dead while others were hacked. In the words of the officer, he said: “Nine people were killed, some were shot dead and others hacked.”

Bernard Momanyi repoted that “Another senior officer at Police headquarters also attested to the figures, assuring the press that the police boss will give details.

He said: “It is true we have lost nine people in today’s (Saturday) attack. You will get details from our bosses.”

It was thereafter made known, according to the report that, “The attack comes barely three days after three police officers were killed during an attack at a police post in Lamu.

And that “President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday morning mentioned the attack during his televised address to the nation following the death of Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery.”

The President grieved over the incident, reassuring the citizens of increased security strength.

“We have had an unfortunate incident this morning which we are assessing. There shall be no vacuum in securing our country.”
